It was recently restored and is one of 25 Spyders with the 4.9-liter V8.
At Osceola Heritage Park, Kissimmee Florida, the 10-day Mecum Kissimmee 2017 auction saw 1,981 cars go under the hammer. The star of the auction is a beautiful 1969 Maserati Ghibli The 4.9 Spyder was the top-selling model, selling for $920,000 more than the estimate by the auction house. It is the original Ghibli Spider ever built. This makes it a rare sight to see on the streets, especially when Maserati only made 125 Ghibli spiders in its five-year production run. This model is even rarer, as only 25 had the V8’s 4.9-liter engine and the rest received the smaller 4.7-liter. The engine is linked to a 5-speed ZF manual gearbox and produces a healthy 330 HP to the stunning Borrani wire wheels, which are backed by disc brakes.
The restoration of this early car involved a lot more than just applying a new yellow coat of paint. The interior of the black leather car appears in excellent condition. The “minor, but acceptable wear” can be seen, however, it wasn’t an issue for the new owners who paid close to $1million for the 170-mph spyder with two-seats designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro.
