1973 Mohs SafariKar Equals Parts Functional And Peculiar

This is the strangest hunting vehicle you have ever heard of.

The Mohs SafariKar is a little-known gem that most petrolheads have not heard of. This monstrosity was first introduced in 1973. It is one of three prototypes that were designed to be a safe vehicle for big game hunting in Africa. Although EPA regulations put a halt to the automobile’s prototype stage, it is a truly unique beast.

Unsurprisingly, Bruce Baldwin Mohs, an inventor and entrepreneur, came up with the idea of creating the ultimate hunting companion. He was a huge success with ideas like the instant milkshake, highway barriers reflectors and a coating that prevents television tubes from collapsing, so he decided to try his hand at the automotive industry.

The chassis of the vehicle is built from the 1969 International Harvester Travelallframe. The SafariKar, however, is not the same timeless vehicle as the base vehicle. It features aluminum-tungsten alloy bulkheads that are wrapped in aluminum panels. These were then wrapped with polyurethane foam, and wrapped in Naugahyde. It also features a pair sliding doors that allow for easy entry and exit. This adds to its 70s heritage.

It retains the 392 cubic inch V8 under the hood thanks to its IH interiors. This is fed by a four barrel Holley carburetor. Bring A Trailer was quick not to notice that the literature reported the power output as adequate. This isn’t a huge deal because the vehicle is all about creature comforts.

Front compartment has three-abreast seating and a trio Solar Automotive Products Baja bucket seats. These seats have been modified by Mohs to pivot and compensate with centrifugal force. A CB unit and an AM/FM radio are also included in the cockpit. The SafariKar also includes an AM/FM radio and a CB unit. This is quite remarkable considering the prototype’s five-digit odometer measures approximately 60 miles.

The current price for the car is $33,333 (EUR278,897 at current exchange rate). This topic has been a popular one on Bring a Trailer with more than 20,000 views and nearly 300 comments. Bidding closes Friday, March 26, at 3:30 PM. Don’t delay!
