This is one of our favorite custom projects.
Ford Escort is still one of the most popular products in its history. The Blue oval decided to end the Escort’s long and successful run in favor of the Focus in 1999, which was its replacement. The Escort has become a symbol of an era when many buyers chose compact hatchbacks for their first cars. The Escort is humble on the outside but has a rich and long history.
The Escort was available in many hot variants during its three-decade-long life . The black 1980 Escort is the best, and even the most powerful engines don’t offer the same level of performance. The main reason is that no Escort came from the factory with a rotary engine.
The vehicle began its life as a simple black Escort with a 1.3-liter gasoline motor. It is possible that this vehicle is the only Escort worldwide to be powered by the Mazda RX-8 rotary engine mill after a lengthy and expensive restoration. Although the engine appears to be in perfect condition, the fit and finish is world-class.
This Escort appears pretty stock from the outside. Only the slightly lowered suspension could indicate what lies beneath the skin. The paintwork is flawless. Apart from the rotary engine we find a complete roll cage, modified suspension and new exhaust system. There are also many other modified or newly added components. This car actually looks more like a tube chassis car if you look closely at its interior.
This red car is powered by its rear wheels, it’s obvious. The driveshaft is located in the tunnel. There is nothing behind the front seats. A tubular construction keeps the car composite and predictable at corners. The original instrument cluster of the RX-8 is seamlessly integrated into the Escort dash housing. Everything is made to an excellent fit and finish standard.
