It is without a doubt the most famous Audi ever built.
This Audi Sport Quattro in pristine condition is an opportunity to own a piece history. Only 164 road-going cars were ever made, and only 214 were actually built to homologation standards. It was built on December 17, 1984 and has driven 90,500 km (56,234 mi). If you have the funds to purchase this legendary car with the four-ring logo, it is now looking for a new home.
The car will be sold by RM Sotheby’s. However, it is not original as the aluminum alloy engine block was replaced within two years of its birth at Audi’s Ingolstadt factory. This is actually good news, considering that the original block was porous and prone to cracking.

MTM Mayer stopped the Sport Quattro in 2010 to have its engine reworked and other modifications done. The turbocharged five-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine was rated at 343 horsepower (256 megawatts), which was more than Audi’s official rating, 306 hp (306 kW). It measured 348 Newton-meters (257-pound-feet) of torque. This is about the same amount as the original 350 Nm (258-lb-ft).
The car has been kept in a warehouse for seven years. According to RM Sotheby’s, the car has traveled less than 10,000km (6,213 miles), in the last decade. The Sport Quattro will undergo a thorough inspection by Audi before being shipped to its rightful owner.
It will be auctioned at Villa Erba’s sale in Lake Como, Italy on May 27th. It is expected to fetch between EUR300,000.00 and EUR350,000, or about $330,000 and $385,000 respectively.
Last but not least, RM Sotheby’s last year sold a 1986 Sport Quattro (pictured below) built to U.K. specifications and driven for 52.570 km (32.662 miles) for a cool Ps403,200 ($536,000).
