Toyota’s 2009 Yaris has a 1.33-liter engine that features stop-start technology. This increases fuel economy to 50 mpg.
Toyota’s frugal Yaris is now more fuel efficient with the addition of a 1.33 liter dual VVT–i engine with stop-start technology. The new engine achieves 55.4 mpg combined fuel efficiency and emissions of sub-120g/km. New video and photos have been added to our gallery of the upcoming vehicle.
The 2009 update gives the Yaris a new face, six-speed transmissions, and Toyota’s Optimal drive. Prices in the UK start at PS8,585.
Stop-start technology on the new 1.33 liter engine allows it to stop rather than idle, saving fuel while driving in cities. Optimal Drive is a combination of weight savings, friction reduction and improvements in combustion that increase the powerplant’s efficiency. The iQ and Auris share the 100-horsepower, 1.33 liter engines. The new Yaris engine lineup includes the 1.0 liter VVTi three-cylinder and the 1.4 liter D-4D Diesel. Standard with the six-speed manual transmission is the Stop & Start system.
