We have all the details on the lighter, stronger, and more efficient engine that will be featured on the Ford Mustang 2011.
Ford today announced that a new all-aluminum V6 will power the Ford Mustang base model. This engine will not only be more powerful than the old one, but it should also offer better fuel economy.
A 3.7-liter, 24-valve Duratec engine will be used by the company. It produces 305 horsepower and 380 ft.lb of torque. This engine is significantly more powerful than the 210-hp, 4.0-liter V6 that was used in the 2010 model year. Despite the larger displacement, it’s still a significant power increase.
It is obvious that Ford has plans to unveil the Mustang GT’s engine. The aluminum engine is just 5-hp less powerful than the V8 engine in the 2010 Mustang GT.
Chief Mustang engineer David Pericak said, “This car represents a new kind of Mustang.” “We are using a high performance quad-cam V-6 engine with all the bells, whistles in a car which has become famous for its handling and roadholding. It’s going to get a lot new Mustang fans excited about Mustang for the first ever time.”
Ford will offer a 6-speed manual gearbox and short throw shifter to pair the engine. A hill-assist auto transmission is also available. The manual’s fuel economy is 18 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. This is slightly better than the 18/26 figure for the 2010 MY.
The automatic gets 30 mpg on the freeway, a 25% increase over the previous model. For better handling, new customers will notice improvements to the chassis, springs and damper tuning. Standard equipment will include a limited-slip differential.
More information about the 2011 Ford Mustang GT GT will be available in December.
