This roadster follows in the footsteps of its predecessor by featuring an electro-mechanical steering mechanism, Active Body Control, as well as an aluminum-intensive body shell and a folding hardtop.

Two engines are available. The entry-level 3.5-liter engine produces 302 hp (306 PS / 225 kW) and 273 lb/ft (376 Nm). While the more powerful SL500 boasts a twin-turbo 4.7 liter V8 that produces 429 hp (335 PS / 435 PS) as well as 516 lb/ft (699Nm) of torque, the more powerful SL500 is equipped with a twin-turbo ft (699 Nm/ / 335 PS / 335 PS / 435 PS / 435 PS and 435 PS
