Mitsubishi’s “global Small” platform debuted in Europe with the debut of the new Mirage at Paris Motor Show.
The “global small” platform from Mitsubishi has made its debut in Europe with the arrival at the Paris Motor Show of the new Mirage. The B-segment car is able to accommodate five people. It’s not a budget vehicle, but the automaker describes it as a “no-nonsense” offering. This vehicle measures 3710mm in length, 1665mm in width, and 1490mm tall. It weighs 845 kg (1863 lbs) curb weight and has 245 liters of cargo space if the back seats have been removed.
Mitsubishi will sell the Mirage in Europe with a new 3-cylinder gasoline engine lineup. The base model receives a tiny 1.0-liter unit that produces 70 hp (52kW) and 65lb-ft (888 Nm). This allows for a sprint of 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h), and returns 70.6 mpg UK (58.78 US mpg or 4 liters/100 km) with low CO2 emissions at 92g/km.
The 1.2-liter version is more expensive and has 79 horsepower (59 kW), and 78lb-ft(105 Nm). It provides a sprint time in 11.7 seconds, a fuel economy in the UK of 68.9 MPG (or 57.3 MPG US), and CO2 emissions of only 96g/km.
Standard features include low-friction tires and regenerative brakes, stop/start systems, intelligent battery sensors, and a high efficiency alternator. Although the engines can be linked to a 5-speed manual transmission, Mitsubishi also offers a CVT gearbox. However, it is not known if it will be made available in Europe.
The suspension is MacPherson strut at the front and a torsion beam axle at the back with coil springs. The new factory in Chonburi will build the car.
