It would surprise no one to lose the large sunroof suddenly.
Ford will recall 887 examples in the 2014 Transit Connect USA because the panoramic sunroof could fall out. This campaign is only applicable to models built between October 4, 2013 and July 14, 2014. The vehicles also need the Panoramic Fixed Glass Vista roof option.
Because of silicone contamination and cleaner residue, there may be an insufficient bond between the sunroof panel’s glass and the sunroof panel. This can lead to more wind noise or water leaks. The worst case scenario is that the part may fall out of your van. This would not only be distracting for those inside, but could also pose a danger to transit connect users.
Ford was notified about the problem by a customer. An examination of warranty claims revealed four instances of sunroofs falling out and other claims regarding leakage. However, there were no injuries or accidents reported.
Ford will reach out to owners and dealers will remove, clean and reinstall sunroofs. The campaign will start on October 31, 2016. Anybody who has paid for this issue in the past can apply for reimbursement.
This year, the Blue Oval is not the only automaker to experience sunroofs breaking. Audi recalls the 2007-2009 Audi A8 and S8 due to an problem with the adhesive panel. Bentley continued the same campaign for 2007-2009 Continental Flying Spur.
Ford also recalls the 2014-2016 Transit Connect, along with many other models, in September as part of a huge campaign to fix the door latches. Nearly 2.4 million vehicles were affected by the fix. A part could have broken and allowed the door to open while you drive. One accident resulted and three injuries. This was not only for the Transit Connect, but all affected models.
