Peugeot officially unveiled the new 108, which will be available as a convertible following yesterday’s leak.

Peugeot officially unveiled the new 108, a convertible version of the 108 that was leaked yesterday.

This cute French city car is designed to be lightest in its segment, with a curb weight of just 840 kg (1.851 lbs). The car will be available as a three- or five-door hatchback as well as as a cabrio (numbed 108 TOP). It will feature a retractable fabric roof, similar to that found on the Citroen DS3 Cabrio as well as the third-gen Renault Twingo.

The new 108 is a much more refined and elegant model than the previous model. This is due to many styling cues from the 308. The vehicle measures 3.47m in length and 1.62m width, while the fabric canopy of the convertible measures 76cm and 80cm respectively. Peugeot equipped the open-air model with an aero-acoustic diffuser that automatically deploys to reduce cabin turbulence.

The new 108 is powered by three-cylinder engines. It starts with a 1.0-liter engine e-VTi, which delivers 68 bhp (51kW) to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. You can have the same engine with either a stop/start system for reducing CO2 emissions or an automatic transmission. A larger 1.2-liter PureTech VTi engine with 82 bhp (61 kW), is also available. It’s mated to a 5-speed manual.

The 2014 Peugeot 108 can be driven on alloy wheels 14 inches in diameter, wrapped in ultra-low rolling resistance tires 165/65 R14 or 165/60 R15 rubbers. All models come standard with a hill-start assist system and an indirect tire underinflation system. 247mm front ventilated disks and 200mm reardrums provide stopping power. Other systems include ABS, Emergency Collision Braking Systems, switchable ESP, and Electronic Brake Force Distribution.

We don’t yet have any photos of the interior, but Peugeot says that the cabin features a height-adjustable driver seat, automatic air conditioning, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The firm’s Open and Go program, six airbags and electric power steering are all included inside.

The 2014 Peugeot108 will be shown for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show. It is expected to go on sale in the UK starting July 1 .
