The recently unveiled 2016 Audi R8 LMS has been photographed in France at the Paul Ricard circuit.

Although it’s strange to see a racecar with no livery, the second generation white Audi R8 LMS was a hit at the Paul Ricard track this week during official testing for the 2015 Blancpain Endurance Series. It will be manufactured by quattro GmbH, and it will be available for order in the second quarter of 2015.

Audi has made the R8 LMS safer by installing a CFRP rear crash component and a roof-mounted rescue door, which are new features for GT3 cars. The model now meets LMP car crash testing requirements. An Audi Protection Series PS1 seat has been added to the chassis to increase stiffness.

The 2016 Audi R8 LMS is 25 kg (55 lbs), lighter than its predecessor due to its lightweight construction. The engineers were able, for example, to reduce the weight of the chassis by around 30 kg (66 pounds). Overall, the Audi R8 LMS now weighs in at 252 kg (555lbs), while the total weight is 1,225 kg (2700 lbs).

The Audi R8 LMS is equipped with the same 5.2-liter V10 engine as before. It can produce up to 585 horsepower (430 kW). A 6-speed gearbox with paddles has been developed to match it.

Audi already confirmed that deliveries will begin towards the end the year.
