A new report sheds light on Abarth’s Fiat 124 Spider version, which is due to be released in 2017.
New information has been revealed about Abarth’s Fiat 124 Spider program, which was due to be released in 2017. We shared a render a few days ago that showed a potential look for the Abarth 124 Spider. Now we have some technical specifications courtesy a report by our colleagues at Piston Heads. It will come with a turbo four-cylinder engine of 1.4-liter capacity that produces 160 bhp (119kW) and 190 (142kW). However, there is also an option for a more powerful edition with more than 200 horsepower (149kW).
As a throwback, the Abarth-tuned homologation car 124 Stradale of the 70s will be offered with a matte black hood. Word on the street also suggests that there is a plan for a hardtop. Abarth’s Fiat 124 Spider is also getting a stiffer body, stiffer suspension and larger brakes. Other mechanical upgrades are also being considered for the vehicle. The best was saved for last, as FCA plans to race the Abarth 124 Spider at the WRC beginning 2017. Although details are not available right now, an unnamed source inside Abarth claims that the vehicle will be participating in a new category of sports cars that aims to restore some of the WRC’s lost reputation.
