2017 Alpine sports car gets a production body

The Vision concept’s mid-engine coupe is just as beautiful as the mid-engine coupe.

Renault is soon to revive the Alpine A110 from the 60s and 70s with a new mid-engine sports car. It will be available under the “Alpine” brand beginning next year. This is a prototype of the lightweight coupe with its own body. It’s unlike other test vehicles which were spotted using Lotus Exige bodies.

Even though the prototype was camouflaged, it is obvious that the exterior has a retro flavor. Alpine has already shown the car with two concepts: the 2015 Alpine Celebration, and the more recent Alpine Vision. These were both unveiled in February of this year. The attached spy photos clearly show that the company promises the production car will retain approximately 80 percent of Vision’s design. The only difference we see at the moment is the larger side mirrors and conventional door handles. Other things may have been modified, but due to the blue and white camouflage it is difficult to see any modifications.

There is plenty to be excited about with the new Porsche 718 Cayman, Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe rivals. The rear-wheel-drive layout will feature a turbocharged engine in the middle. According to rumors, the new 1.8-liter engine will produce more than 250 horsepower and be channeled to traffic via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The model will likely get a larger version later in its life cycle, which could increase the power output to 300 horsepower. This engine will power the next generation Renault Megane RS, which is due to arrive at the end 2017.Reports also suggest that Renault might choose an engine from Mercedes AMG to power the Alpine. However, nothing is confirmed at this time. The engines from Affalterbach could end up in future Alpine products, even if the current alliance between Daimler, Renault-Nissan, and the Renault-Nissan alliance is expanded. There are already talks of a lineup that includes a hatchback and a convertible as well as hybrids.

The first modern Alpine coupe, regardless of the engine, will weigh in at 1,100 kg (2,425 lb) and can reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h) in under four and a quarter seconds.

Although the spy images do not show the interior, it is likely that the cabin will be faithful to the Vision concept. It will feature a driver-focused layout and very few buttons and knobs. The production-ready Alpine should be even more desirable with its two body-hugging chairs and metallic accents.

It will go on sale in 2017 so expect a debut at the Geneva Motor Show next March. The Caterham version, which is shown below in concept form, is still being developed and will eventually be released.
