Prices start at $38,900 in Premium trim
Audi of America introduced the facelifted A3 and S3 about three weeks ago and now the conventionally-powered models are welcoming the frugal A3 Sportback e-tron which has basically the same updates. The vehicle features the familiar A4-like front fascia, along with subtle styling changes as one would expect from a midcycle refresh on a VAG product.
You’ll love the news that the A3 Sportback plug-in hybrid will be available starting in 2017 with the Audi Virtual Cockpit. The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster displays hybrid-related information, such as the consumption figures of gasoline and electricity as well as the remaining range. It is slightly different from the etron model.
Audi is offering more standard equipment than ever before. This includes a rearview camera and panoramic sunroof. If you choose the Premium Plus or Prestige, you will also get the etron-specific LED headlights. All A3 models will come standard with driver assistance systems such as Audi pre-sense basic and Audi pre-sense front.
You’ll find even more tech in the package, including the Audi smartphone interfacing that supports both Android Auto integration and Apple CarPlay integration. Audi connect PLUS and PRIME services are included in the package. They also come with a 6-month trial subscription. The MMI Navigation with MMI Touch infotainment system was updated to the most recent version.
An optional Sport Package is available for the mild facelift. It includes an S line roof-mounted spoiler and 18-inch Turbine-styled alloy wheels with a 15-spoke design. All-season tires are also included. The 2017 A3 Sportback E-tron receives the new pack, which includes front sport seats, a flat-bottomed threespoke steering wheel and shift paddles.
Hardware-wise there are no changes to the plug-in hybrid five door hatch. The turbocharged 1.4-liter gasoline engine is paired with an electric motor for a total of 204 horsepower (152 Kilowatts) as well as 258 pound-feet (353 Newton-meters). The premium compact model can sprint from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in 7.6 seconds.
The entry-level Premium trim is the most affordable. It starts at $38,900. Next comes the Premium Plus at $42,000. Prestige will cost you $47,550. Prices do not include $950 destination fees or any tax credits.
