Honda is currently working on a Type S version of the all-new Civic. However, it will not be available for the 2016 model year. The CivicX forum members have discovered that it will be a 2017MY. It will be available for purchase in the late fall 2016-early spring 2017 timeframe.

A detuned version the turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine of Type R will produce power. It will also inherit many components. The engine will produce between 220 and 230 horsepower in this application. It will only be available with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The fully-fledged Civic Type R is also being mentioned by the same source, although details are not yet available.

Although the Civic Type R will be available commercially in most markets, it may not be available in all. It’s not clear which body style will receive the Type R treatment. However, the hatchback will.

The regular Civic Sedan will continue to be available, as well as the Coupe. Honda appears to have plans for all three body styles (sedan coupe and hatchback) in all markets.

These are rumors, Honda has not confirmed them.
