Next year will see the arrival of turbocharged sedan and coupe models.
Hot Civic news has been plentiful lately with the imminent launch of the five door Type R. Honda will also be offering a Si version of its tenth generation Civic. This prototype was shown here and made its debut in Los Angeles today.
The Civic Si production model will not look any different from the coupe shown here. With its slender front fascia, 19-inch wheels and aero kit, mandatory rear wing, and center exhaust, we expect the car to be on sale as-is. The interior looks great, with the Si-specific front seats looking super supportive and comfortable. We hope they make it to production, but we will happily do without the HFP accessory flooring mats (so bright! ).
Honda also offers the Si sedan version if you don’t like the coupe body. There’s no hatchback, however – that’s Type R territory.
We are still waiting on official performance figures. Honda has only confirmed that the new Si uses the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, has a six speed manual transmission, and is the “fastest and most powerful Si yet.” We believe the power output will be around 225 horsepower. This would keep it competitive with Volkswagen GTI. We expect good things from Honda. The Si will feature a new active damper, steering system, a limited slip differential and optional high performance tires.
Jeff Conrad, Honda’s senior vice president, and general manager, stated that “This will be hands down, the most efficient, and best-handling Si we have ever offered to customers.”
We will have more information closer to the car’s release date in the coming year. Scroll down to see the official press release, and take a look at the Si in action in the gallery below.
