2017 Mercedes GLT pickup spied for first time

The Prototype is built on the Nissan Navara.

Mercedes’ eagerly awaited pickup truck has been seen for the first-time.

The truck will adopt either the GLT moniker or the X-Class moniker. It is based on a Nissan Navara. This model appears to still be in its early stages of development, as it has a few design cues from Japanese automaker. The crew cab pickup is wider at the rear and has longer rear fenders.

Camouflaged interiors suggest that designers are already working to create a luxurious cabin to differentiate the model from its Nissan counterpart. Although nothing is confirmed, the truck could come with two interior options, one for commercial use and one for residential. The second interior is more luxurious and would target those who want a vehicle that can be used as a lifestyle vehicle.

Although engine options are not confirmed, speculation suggests that the truck will come with a variety of petrol and diesel four- and six-cylinder engines. Rumours of a hybrid version have been floating around, but it is not yet confirmed.

Mercedes will show a new, luxurious concept at the Paris Motor Show in October to showcase the prototype. The production model will arrive about a year later, with sales expected to start in late 2017.
