A recent report suggests that the next-generation GT-R could feature a hybrid system similar to that used in the Infiniti M35h.
The next-generation Nissan GT-R is starting to get some new details.
Motor Trend reports that the model will maintain its basic proportions, but be equipped with a sportier front fascia, which maximizes downforce as well as high-speed stability.
The GT-R may have a hybrid powertrain similar to that used in the Infiniti HTML35h, and Infiniti Essence. This will allow it to meet increasing fuel economy and emission standards. A “turbo compressor/generator setup” could be added to the engine. Rumours suggest that both setups are under review, but regardless of which system is chosen, a stop/start and cylinder activation technology will be the standard.
The current model will likely be around for at least two years. However, Kazutoshi Mizuno, chief engineer, suggested that the company could “take the car to 2017, when you can anticipate significant revisions.” This suggests that we won’t be able to see the next-generation model before 2017 or 2018.
