All 3 Series models will have more variants.
The BMW 3 Series is constantly evolving, as well as the BMW 3 Series . Spy photos captured the standard 3 Series as well as the powerful M3, with distinct design elements that set them apart from the previous models. The cars will arrive in 2019 but we have more details to give you a better idea of what to expect.
Autocar reports that BMW will introduce more variants to its 3 Series lineup for 2019. The M340i M Performance rear-wheel-drive model will join the 3 Series lineup. It will have a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 360 horsepower (268 kilowatts). However, gas will not be the only option for a performance engine on the 3 Series, just like the 5 Series.
Soon after the M340i arrives, a four-wheel-drive M340dxDrive M Performance model will be added to the range. The biturbo diesel engine of 3.0-liter capacity should produce around 320 horsepower (238 kW). Harald Kruger, chairman of BMW, stated that diesel will play an important role throughout the 3 Series range. Kruger stated that diesel is an essential component of our efforts to achieve the 2020 climate targets. It is vital in improving the efficiency of future models.
If we are lucky, the high-performance diesel engine might even make its way to the U.S. The X3 and 3 Series will already share the same 2.0-liter diesel engines, which have 190 hp (140 kW), and 295 poundfeet (405 Newton-meters) respectively. The new diesel 3 Series and X3 will be sold together with the upcoming 5 Series diesel engine for America, the 540d.
The design of the new 3 Series will be influenced by the 5 Series. The extensive use of aluminum, carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and aluminum should make it lighter , shedding around 88 pounds (40 kgs) over the previous model. BMW’s CLAR platform will be used for the 3 Series, which is currently the basis of the 5 Series and 7 Series.
