2019 Fiat124 Spider is Louder, but Not Faster or Stronger

2019 will see Fiat offer the 124 Spider a new style option and a louder exhaust system.

2019’s Fiat 124 Spider introduces a few new features to enhance the personalization capabilities of this retro-chic roadster. Most notable is which adds a dual mode exhaust to the top-ofthe-line Spider Abarth. The stainless-steel unit is quiet at idle and when the throttle has been applied lightly. The Abarth clears its throat when you press the go-pedal. Thanks to a valve in the exhaust system, the muffler is closed and it makes for a loud hullabaloo.

The $995 exhaust system does not add any power to the 124 Spider Abarth. The turbocharged 1.4 liter inline four continues to produce the same horsepower (119 kilowatts), as before. The 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata has more power than the 124 Spider Abarth, with 181 horses (135 Kilowatts) from its naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine. This is 26 more ponies (19 kilowatts).

The Fiat 124 Spider Abarth has more than just a dual-mode exhaust system. There is also a Veleno Appearance package that the model now offers. Packages starting at $495 include a red front-tow hook cover, red mirror caps and red trim to center of lower-front fascia. Also included are Abarth-specific floormats and an aluminum-like deadpedal.

Every Fiat 124 Spider comes with a standard backup camera. The Classica model adds “Double Rally”, and “Retro,” stripes to the options menu. The price of the 160 horsepower (119kilowatts), model is $295 more with the stripes. The 2019 Fiat 124 Spider is priced at $24,995 and comes with either a six-speed manual transmission (standard) or an optional six speed automatic (optional).
