Only a few weeks ago, Porsche was seen at Monza circuit in Italy pushing the limits of a prototype 911 GT3-RS. Now the track-only Porsche is getting its official debut. The thoroughbred race car, which is ready for the 2019 season and is based on the road-legal Porsche 991 GT3 R (991.2), uses a nearly identical 4.0-liter flat six-speed engine that is linked to a sequential 6-speed gearbox. The naturally aspirated mill produces more than 542 horsepower (404kW) and has a wider rev range than its predecessor.

The 2019-spec 911 GT3 R has seen some aero improvements, just like the Porsche tweaks for the road car. Additional modifications were made to the tires at the front wheels, increasing their circumference from 650 to 680mm and installing the latest version of the double wishbone suspension.

Engineers also spent time on the brake system in order to improve stiffness and to allow for better control of anti-lock brakes. The front axle has six-piston monobloc aluminum brake calipers. These are paired with ventilated and grooved 390mm discs. Porsche installed four-piston brake calipers at the rear of the race car. These are connected to 370-mm discs.

A new bucket seat was also designed to increase safety and provide superior protection to the driver in an accident. Porsche claims that the center of gravity for the driver has been increased to improve safety. The driver’s side door has a carbon fiber Kevlar aluminum part with energy-absorbing foam that acts as a side impact component in the event of a collision. You can remove both the doors and side windows.

This makes it much easier to fill the 120-liter fuel tank. All windows are made of polycarbonate, while the roof, front hood, doors, wheel arches and interior trim were made with a carbon fiber composite material.

The cabin has undergone a major overhaul and all controls are now aligned to meet the needs of the driver.

Porsche is taking orders now for the 2019-spec model. It is asking EUR459,000 plus country-specific value-added tax and will begin deliveries in December.
