Toyota adds scionara to “Yaris iA”, the model year 2019 model.
The subcompact sedan was previously known as the Scion iA or Toyota Yaris iA. The Toyota Yaris Sedan offers three trim levels, unlike the predecessor which was limited to one. All models come standard with power side mirrors, and an attractive front fascia that includes a honeycomb insert to the grille. You also have a few piano black accents, and a chrome trim. But that’s it.
You can upgrade to the LE or the XLE grades and Toyota will give you fog lights, heated mirrors with LED turn signals, 16-inch wheels in dark gunmetal, as well as a lip spoiler. Active safety systems are standard across the range and can be used to reduce low-speed collisions. They alert the driver with visual and audible warnings. If the driver ignores those warnings, the car will apply the brakes automatically.
A 1.5-liter gasoline engine provides power. It can be connected to either a 6-speed manual gearbox, or an automatic with the exact number of gears. The auto model is better for efficiency. It will get 32 mpg in the city and 40 on the highway. This combination gives it a combined 35 mpg, or 1 more than its manual-equipped counterpart. Naturally aspirated four-cylinder units produce 106 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 103 pound-feet (140 Newton meters) of torque starting at 4,000 RPM. You can even choose Sport mode to get more “spirited driving” and increase the torque feel.
All versions of the small sedan come with front discs and drum brakes (yes that’s right) at their backs. On the inside, there’s a 7 inch touchscreen with voice recognition and rearview cameras. The standard package also includes a six-speed sound system. You can play your favorite music via the built-in USB and Bluetooth connectivity.
All cars have cruise control and a push-button start. The LE and XLE are equipped with a more sophisticated Smart Key System, as opposed to the simpler keyless entry system found in the entry-level trim. The standard features include power windows, a 60/40 split rear bench and steering wheel-mounted controls.
The range-topping XLE will give you a Yaris Sedan with LED headlights, illuminated entrance, leather-wrapped steering wheels and parking brakes, automatic climate control, windscreen wipers, leatherette-trimmed seats, and automatic climate control.
Toyota will sell the 2019 Yaris Sedan this fall. While the starting price isn’t available yet, we don’t expect any major changes to the 2018 Yaris iA ($15,000.50 manual / $17.050 auto).
