The new sleek sedan starts at $35,800
After a lengthy teasing campaign and the debut of the new V60 car, Volvo now has a brand-new vehicle that features the same striking design language. The new sedan from the Swedish marque was unveiled today at its South Carolina manufacturing plant. It’s as stunning as its spacious sibling.
The front fascia is similar to all previous Volvos. It features the same styling as most other new Volvos. The midsize sedan looks a little sharper than the larger S90. The running lights are closer to the grille and the lower diffuser is less angular.
The S60 is built on the same Scalable Product Architecture as the V60. This means that they share some of the same powertrain options. T5 is standard with 250 horsepower (186 kilowatts), and T6 can be ordered with all-wheel drive.
You can choose from two turbocharged or supercharged plug in hybrid engines. The T6 Twin Engine with all wheel-drive produces 340 horsepower. The T8 Twin Engine all wheel-drive produces 400 horsepower (298 kW). The T8 can be ordered with the Polestar Engineered trim, which adds upgrades to wheels, brakes and suspension as well as increasing output to 415 horsepower (309 kW).
Volvo’s Sensus Connect touchscreen infotainment screen, measuring nine inches, is standard on the V60. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and can act as a 4G LTE Wi–Fi hotspot. Standard automatic emergency brake, oncoming lane mitigation and optional rear cross traffic alarm are all available. There is also an optional Pilot Assist that assists the driver with steering, acceleration and braking at speeds up to 80 miles per hours (130 km per hour).
The new Volvo S60 starts at $35,800, not including the $995 destination charge for the T5 Momentum model. The T8 will run upwards of $55,400. The Care By Volvo subscription service offers three trim levels: the S60 T6 Momentum will start at $755 per month, the S60 T6 AWD R-Design will cost $850 per month, and then the S60 T8 Polestar will start at $850 per month. The pricing for the second trim will be revealed at a later date.
The 2019 Volvo V60 will be on the production line at Volvo South Carolina’s manufacturing plant later in the year. Deliveries are expected in the fourth quarter.
