2020 Audi A4 Lineup Reveals Refreshed Face and Hybrid Power

The Allroad and S4 get a little tuck.

Audi gave its European A4 line a slight facelift last year. The full A4 lineup is getting a noticeable update as we enter the 2020 model year. We have seen spy photos of long-roof Avants playing in snow with camouflaged rear and front clips. Now we know why. Audi has taken the covers off its entire lineup of A4s for 2020, including the secretly released S4 TdI diesel.

The 2020 A4 line has a slightly larger face. Redesigned headlights have been removed from the old model’s lower notch, making the difference obvious. The Singleframe grille has been redesigned and now extends further across the front to give it a horizontal appearance. The corner vents at the lower fascia are now vertically themed. The redesigned taillights are similar to the previous model. However, the rear fascia has minor modifications to the reflectors and exhaust outlets.

The A4 and have been updated. They are joined by the Avant, A4 Allroad and the Avant. The A4 can be outfitted in S, B, or advanced exterior trim. Terra Gray is also available. The interior is almost unchanged, but the car has an updated MMI technology that can be accessed through a large touchscreen of 10.1 inches.

Perhaps the most important news is the increase in electrification across the A4 range. Six turbocharged engines will be offered by Audi in Europe, ranging from 148 horsepower (1110 kilowatts), to 342 horsepower (255kW), with three featuring 12-volt mild hybrid systems. This includes the diesel-powered S4; we say this because the S4’s higher-spec version actually has a 48-volt mild-hybrid setup and a turbocharged 3.0-liter oil burner. Audi claims that the S4 can reach 100 km/h (62mph) in just 4.8 seconds, and top out at 250 km/h(155mph) electronically. The diesel S4 is not available in Europe, as you might imagine.

The European order banks for the refreshed A4 are now open. Allroad models will be available in the summer, while all models will be available in the autumn. The pricing and availability for the U.S. has not been announced yet. However, the A4 in Germany starts at EUR35,000.
