It would be a better choice than an SUV any day of the week and twice every Sunday.
We love all wagons, regardless of how small or expensive they are. Audi Sport’s latest long-roof model is the S6 Avant. This new version was launched by Ingolstadt’s performance division as part of a surprising diesel assault that also included the S7 Sportback and the S4 and S5 lineups.

Audiography, our longtime friend, is often the first photographer to capture a new product with the Four Rings. His recent work included the S7 Sportback as well as the new S6 Avant. Both TDI-powered models were captured in Rudesheim am Rhein, Germany. Audi Deutschland invited him for a photo of the new diesel wagon in Tango red metallic.
The SQ5 was the first to introduce a disturbing trend in performance Audis: the disgusting fake exhaust tips. Although they’re not as disgusting as the SUV’s, it’s still disappointing to see the S6 Avant try to convince us that the quad pipes are real. You can see the exhaust hidden under the rear bumper. It is not twin pipes running through the bumper as fast-wagon lovers would have preferred.
This is not all bad news. While the Euro-spec Audi S6 Avant will feature this controversial setup, other markets around the world will see a gasoline engine. The vehicle will also have functional quad tips. We don’t think the S6-powered TFSI model will make it to Europe.
The next-generation RS6 Avant will be your fast wagon. It comes with the usual pair of oval tips. It may also make it to the United States.
Below are a few videos that Audi released today featuring the S6 Avant TDI and S6 Sedan TDI.
