2020 Audi SQ7 TDI Arrives With Fresh Design, Torque-Rich V8 Diesel

You can haul just about anything thanks to 664 lb (900 Nm).

In March 2016, the Volkswagen Group’s first model to receive the tech-heavy 4.0 liter TDI V8 engine was the SQ7. Models like the Bentley Bentayga Diesel and VW Touareg have had the tech-heavy 4.0-liter TDI V8 engine since March 2016. Now it is time for the flagship Q7 version to undergo a mid-cycle refresh. The styling changes on the exterior are identical to those made to the Q7 facelift about a month back. The SQ7 facelift features new headlights, taillights, and taillights that bring the performance diesel SUV into line with other products bearing the Four Rings. The SQ7 looks more impressive than the standard SUV with single bars, thanks to its twin vertical slats.

The quad exhausts at the rear are a sign that this isn’t your regular Q7. Meanwhile, the full-width metal bar running from one taillight into the other refreshes the SUV’s tailgate. Although it is not noticeable, the rear underbody protection has had some modifications. The silver finish matches the exterior accents in matte silver, as well as the side mirror caps. The SQ7 looks a little more sophisticated with a black styling package. You can also opt for the Audi Exclusive Program to get a more exotic color like this Daytona Gray.

Audi SQ7 TDI has 20-inch wheels. It rides on 285/45 tires and is backed by larger brakes than the standard Q7. This allows it to match its additional power. These are 15.7 inches (400 mm) long at the front, and 14.6 inches (370 mm at the back) and can be fitted with black or red brake calipers. An optional carbon ceramic set of calipers measuring 16.5 inches (420 mm) or 14.6 inches (370 mm) can be used to make them even larger.

The SQ7’s core is the same 4.0-liter V8-liter TDI engine with an electric-powered compressor. This assists the turbochargers. This diesel beast produces 429 horsepower and an incredible 664 pound-feet (6900 Newton-meters of torque) from a low 1,250 RPM. It allows the SUV to sprint to 62 mph (101.0 kph) in just 4.8 seconds, before reaching its maximum electronically controlled speed of 155 mph (22.5 kph).

The S version, like the 2020 Q7’s, has a vastly improved interior. It features two touchscreens dominating its center console. The much-criticized tablet has been removed, and the physical controls for climate control have been integrated into the new lower display. Audi’s most recent and best version of the Audi Virtual Cockpit has some additional features that were specifically designed for the SQ7. Audi Europe will soon begin accepting orders for 2020 SQ7 models. Prices in Germany start at EUR94,900. The seven-seat model will cost you EUR96,420 if you need the third row.
