The 3Series gasoline M Performance model can be purchased with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, but the diesel version will only come with xDrive. The sedan will sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h), in 4.6 seconds, while the long-roof model will take two-tenths more time due to its slightly heavier weight. Both models will come equipped with an electronic speed limiter that kicks in at 155 mph (253 km/h).
People are more likely to be interested in the car’s fuel consumption since it is a diesel engine. Auto Week says that the sedan consumes an average of 5.3 to 5.9 liters (44.3-411.2 miles per gallon), while the Touring will need an additional 0.1 for every 100 kilometers. Both BMWs will have an engine-off coasting function. This will allow them to reach speeds up to 100 mph (160 km/h).
The engine is also shared with the hot-diesel SUVs X3 and X4M40d. According to Auto Week’s report, the straight-six 3.0-liter produces 340 horsepower. But the surprise is that torque has been increased from 680 Newton-meters (516 pound-feet), to 700 Nm (516lb-ft).
BMW should soon reveal the M340d to rival the Audi S4 facelift. This diesel-powered vehicle is already available in Europe.
