The third generation of the original coupe SUV is available.
Although there were coupe-SUVs in the past, such as the small Suzuki X-90, BMW was the one who introduced the coupe-SUV to the automotive world back in 2008 with its original X6 (E71). The X6 is now in its third generation. Its big kidneys make it more polarizing than ever. The Sports Activity Coupe (SAC), which is described as “a leader with broad shoulders”, can be ordered with an illuminated grille. This lights up when you open or close doors, and even while you drive the luxobarge.
These videos highlight the M50i range-topping variant. They also show the new 2020 BMW X6 with its unusual shape and modernized interior. For diesel enthusiasts looking for an SUV with four turbochargers, the Europe-only M50d will look almost identical. The M Performance models come standard with 21-inch alloy wheels and some other sporty upgrades.
BMW will offer the X6 in xLine or M Sport versions, as an option to the standard model. The optional off-road package will be available for all models of the range, except the M50. This will allow the 0.1% of buyers to take the coupe-SUV off-road. The package will include four off-road driving modes, including snow, sand and gravel, as well as a two-axle air suspension that provides increased ground clearance. The X6 package will include extra underbody protection for the front, an M Differential lock and off-road tires.
The panoramic glass roof that you see is 83% larger than the one on the old X6. You can also spend more to get the BMW Sky Lounge, which has over 15,000 illuminated graphic elements. You have endless options for configuring the SUV. These include heated and cooled cupholders as well as ambient air packages with eight scents.
The new X6 supports over the-the-air updates. This means you don’t need to visit your local BMW dealer to get the latest software to your iDrive infotainment systems. Additional tech features include adaptive LED headlights with Laserlight, a 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround audio system and a 1,500-watt Bowers & Wilkins surround speaker system. The 2020 X6 has the same dual 12.3-inch digital screens found in high-end BMWs.
The third-gen X6 will be built at BMW’s Spartanburg, South Carolina factory, just like its predecessors. It is expected to be on the market by November 2019. The flagship X6 M model will likely arrive next year.
