2020 Buick Encore GX Gets Sport Touring Pack, Featuring 155 HP

The standard gearbox is the CVT.

Buick today confirmed that a turbocharged, 1.3-liter engine with 155 horsepower (115kW) will power the 2020 Buick EncoreGX. A smaller engine of 1.2-liter will also be available. Buick unveiled the GX earlier in the year to position it between the Encore and Envision, in an effort to broaden its crossover range. Buick did not provide much information on the new crossover. We now know which powertrain options are available.

The 1.3-liter engine produces 155 horsepower and 174 pound feet (235 Newton-meters), of torque. The motors power the front wheels, and they will be paired with a continuously variable transmission.

All-wheel drive is available with the 1.3-liter engine. This requires the nine-speed manual gearbox. GM estimates that the GX will return 31 MPG combined. Official EPA numbers are still pending.

Buick also announced a Sport Touring package to be available for Encore GX. It adds only a sporty look to the Encore GX. It has unique wheels and body-color surrounds. A black mesh grille is also included with red accents.

Buick has also made the GX safer by adding forward collision alert, auto emergency braking and lane keep assistance with lane departure warning to the lane. Rear cross-traffic alert and rear park assist are optional safety features. They also include adaptive cruise control, a rear camera mirror, rear cross-traffic alarm, rear park assistance, rear parking assist, and a head up display.

The 2020 Buick Encore GTX will be available at Buick dealerships in the first quarter of next year. It could cost less than the regular Encore depending on which trim it is. The GX is expected to start at $25,095, plus the destination fee. Although it’s more costly than the Encore, the GX can be flipped with the Preferred trims which are $500 less than the Encore. The Encore GX Essence trim is $800 cheaper than the Encore Essence.

Buick will soon release pricing information and details about the Encore GX, which is expected to arrive in early next year.
