It is almost as amazing as actually seeing it in person.
The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette will be a game-changer, whether you like it or not. This V8-powered mid-engined supercar will be offered by GM for less that $60,000 when it goes on sale later in the year. We learned recently from GM’s C8 order guide that the base ‘Vette will still come fully equipped, but most buyers will opt for the Z51 Performance Package.
While we had a good look at the new C8 at its official launchon July 18th, Donut Media was able to get a closer look at the car. The video at the top shows Donut Media’s recent visit.
This video shows the Corvette’s interior and exterior design from front to back. Although the C8 isn’t designed to look like a Corvette, some have complained that it doesn’t. However, this video captures the essence of the Corvette’s design. These styling cues are most closely associated with the C7, particularly the sharp nose. However, the quad-taillight arrangement and arched fenders are hallmarks of the legendary moniker.
We also get a look inside the Corvette, which has been criticized for being too cheap. Clint Simone, our man, spent time in the C8. This clip confirms his initial assessment that the Corvette’s new greenhouse is unique in both design and finish. The cockpit has a driver-centric feel with leather, aluminum and carbon fiber accents to provide an elegant experience. Although the row of buttons on the center spine is controversial, there are some benefits to simple push-button controls that allow for easy actions.
Chevrolet has been trying to go mid-engine with Corvettes for decades. The average age of Corvette buyers is over 60, so the automaker had to take a bold step in order to attract younger buyers to Porsche and Audi. We spoke to Corvette owners at the Black Hills Corvette Classic and found that they were cautiously optimistic about the new car, but very few people are interested in buying it.
Chevy’s strategy of attracting new talent is clearly working, as the 2020 Stingray has already been nearly sold out. The next few years of the Corvette world will be very exciting.
