2020 Ford Escape spotted wearing its production body

There’s a new SUV that is attractive beneath all the camouflage.

Its exterior may look like camouflage, but underneath it is the brand new Ford Escape. This SUV will debut sometime in 2019. The new SUV was tested on Dearborn’s public roads by our spy photographers. While it has some similarities to the current model, particularly its profile, there are many important new features.

The Escape’s front fascia will be completely redesigned. Although the Escape’s updated grille and headlights are not visible in these images, it is easy to see the new design. It features sharper lights and a more prominent nose. Rumours suggest that the SUV will be based on the Focus.

Although the Escape’s body is new, it shares some similarities with the current model. Although the overall shape is the same, the beltline rises gradually from the A to C pillars, resulting in a rear that seems larger and more spacious than its predecessor. Although the prototype shown here is a two-row model with reports suggesting that a three-row version may also be available, it’s not clear if this will ever happen.

The same Focus-inspired cues are found in the rear. The rear taillights are now more sharpened and sculpted. Additionally, the rear hatch is longer and has a wider opening. On this prototype, you can see dual exhaust tips. Power is likely to come from either the standard 1.5-liter three cylinder engine or the optional 2.0-liter EcoBoost, which will be offered on higher trims. The lineup should include a hybrid option, which will be available with a standard nine-speed automatic transmission on all engine options.

The Ford Escape will not be on display until at least the end of 2019. It will be sold in the U.S. as a 2020 model. However, we may see it at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. More details will be available closer to the official debut date.
