Tire punctures are no longer a concern on your trip.
The new Ford Explorer already ranks among the top vehicles for large family trips. The Explorer is spacious, comfortable, and includes a wide range of accessories to make your journeys more enjoyable. Ford has teamed up with Michelin to introduce a new feature that will enhance your driving experience: self-sealing tires.
These tires can withstand common punctures by nails and screws and have self-seal technology to “dramatically slow down the rate at which water leaks.” It seals up to 90% of tread punctures up to 0.25 inches in diameter. Michelin claims that the loss in air pressure is less than 15 pounds per square inches per week. Real-life results could vary.
Joseph Billman (Ford wheel and tire engineer), comments that nothing can stop a family vacation more than a flat tire. The Explorer is the ultimate family road-trip hauler, and it’s the ideal fit for the new Michelin Selfseal tires.
Ford is proud to announce that the 2020 Exporer will be the first SUV in the world to receive the Michelin Selfseal Tires. They will be standard on the Platinum or Limited Hybrid four wheel-drive models. They are available as an option on Limited two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive models. All variants have a tire size of 255/55/20.
According to the Blue Oval, the main benefit of self-healing tires over regular tires is that they don’t require you to stop on the side of the road in order to change a flat tire. This reduces time and increases safety. It also helps to keep your vehicle in full control in case of punctured rubber.
Craig Patterson, Explorer marketing manager adds, “The all new Explorer was designed to make our customers feel unstoppable, and worry-free.” “The availability these new Michelin Selfseal tires are another great example of this.”
