We are fine with “over 700 horsepower”.
The Ford Shelby GT500 has returned and is more powerful than ever. It’s supercharged like its competitors, but it has a smaller 5.2-liter V8 than the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat or Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. It doesn’t matter though because Ford still promises “over 700 horsepower”, which would surpass both its competitors. This Mustang is the most powerful ever.
It is also one of the most aggressive and angriest. We have video of the car revving as we prepare to film. This supports our first point. The second? Let’s just take a look at it. The GT500 has a menacing body that conceals 20-inch wheels and a Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2. The GT500’s rear wing is massive, and six heat extractors are hidden behind the front fascia.
This car has many roles. The car has 16.5-inch brake discs in the front to help it get down to speed quickly. This is what you would need on a drag strip. These same stoppers can resist fade without the need for carbon-ceramic wheels. Tremec’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission powers the GT500. While we may miss the bolt-action nature the GT500’s manual gearbox had, Ford claims that this unit can change gears in less than 100 milliseconds. This makes it ideal for drag racing and road courses. The GT500’s suspension can be adjusted almost immediately thanks to the magnetic dampers
Ford claims that the GT500 can run a quarter-mile in less than 11 seconds and a sprint to 60 in just three seconds. This sounds like a lot of fun. Ford will reveal the exact horsepower and torque of the GT500, which will make it even more enjoyable. We’ll have to wait until the fall for that information. The 2020 Ford Shelby GT500 will be on display at the 2019 North American International Auto Show.
