A 10-speed automatic and two new engines are on the horizon.
Ford has added some new features to its 2020 Transit line-up. Full-size vans can transport cargo and people. You can choose from an upgraded engine, a new transmission and all-wheel drive. The GVWR of chassis cab and cutaway models is also higher at 11,000 pounds.
Transit All the Things
Mark Buzzell, Ford director for fleet, lease, and remarketing operations, stated that Transit was America’s first full-size van. We listened to family and commercial customers and updated Transit with useful amenities such as standard Wi-Fi for crew and kids, and driver-assist features such as adaptive cruise control that takes the stress out traffic.
Ford’s intelligent all wheel-drive system is perhaps the most prominent option. It can send all power to the front wheels in the normal mode to avoid skidding or slipping, or drivers can choose from a variety of modes to better manage power in different conditions. The new EcoBlue four-cylinder turbo 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel engine replaces the inline-5 diesel.
A 3.5-liter PFDi-V6 gasoline engine is now standard issue, replacing the 3.7-liter model. For those looking for more power, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 is still an option. Ford’s new 10-speed auto is the new gearbox for all engine options. However, those looking for diesel power and all-wheel drive will be disappointed. A gasoline engine will power all four wheels.
Ford has included a range of standard safety systems in the 2020 Transit. The big tamale is pre-collision assistance with automatic emergency brake and pedestrian detection. However, the van also has forward collision warning, automatic high-beam lighting, lane-keep aid, and lane-keep assistant. Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 system is available on higher trim levels. It adds blind spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, and reverse sensing systems. As an option, Active Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and a host of cameras are offered.
The 2020 Transit gets a minor facelift from an exterior perspective. It has a modified grille and LED headlights that are available. A redesigned fascia is also included. The interior features a revised dash, upgraded materials, and optional swivel seats. This makes it more like an RV experience. You can also choose a power sliding side door.
Ford has yet to release pricing information for the 2020 Transit, but they say the van will be available this fall.
