Is it worth the $12,000 extra in performance?
Honda offers a range of performance cars at a bargain price. The Civic TypeR is a well-respected model. We’ve had the opportunity to test it in a First Drive Review.
There’s also the Civic Si coupe. This is a middle ground between regular Civics, and Civic Type R.
How does the performance of the range-topping Civic compare to the Si mid-trim Si? These advantages are worth the price?
YouTube’s Fast Lane Car attempted to answer this question in a comparison clip, embedded above. Let’s compare the lap times and go head-to-head in a drag race to give each car their due credit.
The major advantage of the red-badged Civic Type R is the powerplant. The Civic Type R FK8 is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter mill that produces 306 horsepower (228 Kilowatts) as well as 295 pound-feet (405 Newton-meters), of torque for its U.S. market model.
The Civic Si coupe is equipped with a 1.5L force-inducted 1.5L engine, producing 205 HP (153 kW), and 192 Lb-ft (265 Nm) of twists. This is a significant difference to the red badge, but it’s still better than the non-Si Civic with the same engine.
