The dashboard includes three screens: one for the instrument cluster, and two for the camera based mirrors.
As cars become more technologically advanced, the size of the screens inside the cabin grows. The 2020 Honda E is a new level of car, with five screens in the dashboard. The six-inch outer screens show footage from the standard-fit side cameras. The one in front of you is the all-digital instrument cluster, which has an 8.8-inch diagonal.
Honda now has a video showing the main touchscreens at the center of the dashboard. They measure 12.3 inches in size. This video shows how simple it is to drag and drop tiles between displays and navigate through tabs just like on our smartphones. The “Vehicle Settings” section provides a 360-degree view of the electric vehicle. It also allows you to access functions like the door/window setup and keyless access.
The Honda E will include a digital key. This is a device that turns your smartphone into a lock and unlock key. The digital key can be programmed to notify you whenever the vehicle moves outside its pre-established geofence zone.
Although the video is only one minute and a quarter long, it gives an idea of how complicated yet simple the infotainment system will be. It is complex because it bundles many functions such as Bluetooth audio, multi-view camera, HDMI connectivity, and a personal assistant that looks like a smartphone. Drivers will also be able download additional apps from the app center to enhance their infotainment experience.
Honda’s decision to keep the quick-access buttons and knobs for climate control settings is a smart one. You’ll also notice a few of them below the touchscreen on the left side. Additional buttons and switches are also included in the steering wheel, and the lower portion of the center console houses the HDMI and USB ports and power outlets.
Honda reminds us that it has received approximately 36,000 expressions of interest for the all-electric E. It will be revealed in production form later this year. Unfortunately, the adorable EV will not be available in the United States.
