This puts the South Korean midsize sedan in direct competition with the Subaru Legacy or Nissan Altima.
The all-new Hyundai Sonata has arrived and is sporting the brand’s “Sensuous Sportiness”, a sleek styling language. Although the new design language is sure to attract attention with its outrageous looks, we are yet to see it in action at the New York Auto Show.
Learn More About The Stylish Sonata
Other than the South Korea unveils a 1.6-liter turbocharged powerplant Many details regarding the Sonata’s powertrains and underpinnings were not revealed until a few days ago. We do know that the sedan’s midsize is built on top of an internal platform called N3.
The new N3 platform will be the foundation of future Hyundai models, including crossovers and SUVs, in addition to the updated design language. The possibility of an all-wheel drive Sonata is not far away, but Hyundai’s director for product division isn’t keen to keep that secret.
According to CNET, Jae Young Kim gave a definitive answer at a Seoul press conference this week when she was asked about the possibility for an all-wheel-drive Sonata in the U.S.
He said, “Yes…we are currently reviewing the need to have all-wheel drive [in the US] market.”
It is easy to see why an all-wheel driveline is needed for the U.S. market. There are many climates in the country, so vehicles must be able to withstand various road conditions.
Even with the SUV/Crossover being so popular in the U.S.A, and especially with AWD, not everyone is looking for a high-riding car. AWD sedans such as the Subaru Legacy, Nissan Altima and the 2020 Hyundai Sonata are still in demand.
