The interior also has received numerous updates and is now packed with more technology than ever.
The Cadenza saw sales drop to 1,630 units in 2019, compared to 4,507 units for 2018. However, Kia hopes that demand will rebound with the refreshed midsize sedan. Although the K7 was launched in South Korea in June 2018, the revised model made its debut in North America.
The stylish sedan enters its fourth model year with a revamped front fascia and new grille. Standard LED headlights have been updated with daytime running lights. But it’s the Cadenza’s taillights that draw attention. The trunk lid now has a full-width strip to make them look larger. Kia has also made some changes to the rear bumper, including redesigning the standard 18-inch alloys. A larger 19-inch set is available at an additional cost.
Once you get inside the cabin, there are many more changes. The 4.2-inch digital driver display and the 12.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment systems have been replaced. The Limited model is available and Cadenza has multi-color LED ambient lighting that creates a comfortable atmosphere at night. Three additional USB charging ports have been added by Kia to ensure that your smart phone never runs low on juice. For those who don’t want to use cables, the wireless fast charger has been upgraded.
Kia didn’t mess with the engine. The 3.3-liter V6 continues to produce 290 horsepower and 253 pounds-feet (343 Newton meters) of torque. This power is channeled to the front end through an eight-speed auto transmission. To reduce NVH, engineers made changes beneath the skin. They added reinforced rear subframe cross members and resonance wheels. Redesigned shock valves and rear dampers are also available.
The model year transition brought about a significant change in the safety equipment. This is what Kia calls Drive Wise. You can now get everything, including forward-collision warning and collision avoidance assist as well as smart cruise control (and high-beam assistance). Smart Wise 2020 Cadenza also features blind spot and lane following assist. Highway driving assist adjusts the car’s speed according to federal highway speed limits.
The 2020 Kia Cadenza will be on sale in Technology and Limited trims later in the year. The Premium model was removed from the lineup. Prices will be revealed closer to launch.
