Mercedes took its time updating the GClass just like Land Rover is not in a hurry to release a revamped Defender. We can see the Tata Motors-owned marque in a winter wonderland, finishing the next generation of its offroad icon in the long wheelbase flavor. But we also get a glimpse at the two-door SWB variant. The Defender’s distinctive shape is obvious, even with all the camouflage available.
The Defender has been confirmed for the much-awaited U.S. departure. It does not have the “BEST4X4 FAR” decal that we saw last year, when prototypes of the SWB/LWB versions were discovered out and about. The next generation of Defenders will have full-LED lights at the front and rear. While the overhangs are what you would expect from Defenders, they also feature LED lights. Although we can’t see inside the prototypes, there was an image of a mockup cabin that appeared on the Internet around a month ago. Although it didn’t reveal the final design for the SUV’s interior layout, it gave us a glimpse of the more modern and contemporary dashboard.
The technical details of the new Defender are not available at this time. However, it is rumored that it will ride on a car-like platform with independent rear suspension. There are a variety of body styles, including pickup trucks and soft-tops. The vehicle will also have upscale interiors that can be customized to suit your needs. Land Rover plans to offer a variety of body styles. After 68 years of production, Land Rover discontinued the old-fashioned Defender in January 2016. Its replacement is expected to be available sometime in the next year.
