Lego Technic collaborated with the automaker to develop the kit.
Land Rover unveiled the new 2020 Defender earlier this week at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This was not the only Defender announcement. Lego Technic has unveiled a new 2020 Land Rover Defender Kit that will be available worldwide October 1. This kit was developed in partnership by the British automaker and features many realistic functions and elements.
This 2,573-piece kit includes authentic body panels as well as wheels. There is a four-wheel drive, with three differentials and an independent suspension. A working winch is also included, as well as what Lego Technic calls the “most sophisticated gearbox ever.” The cabin includes a functioning steering wheel and a detailed dashboard.
The mission is real, or as real and realistic as possible with a Lego Technic set, and the new Defender kit delivers. Two levers allow for high and low gear engagement, while another selector allows you to change gears. To view the sequential four-speed gearbox, fold the rear seats forward and lift the hood. The inline-six engine features moving pistons. The rear door can be opened by turning the rear-mounted spare tire.
The Defender has more powertrain options, including two diesel and a turbocharged four cylinder gas. There is also a V6 that can be paired with mild-hybrid systems. Full-size Defenders also have a two-speed transmission case, permanent all-wheel driving, and an eight-speed automated gearbox. This allows for maximum off-road enjoyment and fun.
Land Rover is launching two Defender versions – the 90 and 110. The 110 will arrive first, while the 110 will be available in spring. The Defender 110 starts at $49,900. However, the Lego Technic kit will be available for $199 in the U.S. It will be available as a black, olive, or grey color scheme.
