You can now stay anywhere with the go-anywhere SUV.
Land Rover seems to have chosen the right time to revamp the Defender, and let it go free into the world. The popularity of SUVs is increasing, as has the interest in camping. A rooftop tent is a great option for Defender enthusiasts looking to escape the city for a weekend.
Autohome and Land Rover have teamed up to create a roof tent for off-roaders. The tent features a tough design and lightweight fiberglass shell with gray fabric sides. It is quick to erect in just seconds. To open the tent completely, simply remove the clip at the rear and lift the top.
Two adults can be accommodated inside the tent on a luxury full-size mattress. A storage net, an LED interior light and pillows are included. The aluminum ladder allows campers to reach the tent from either end. It can also be stored in the storage net for when it is not in use.
The Autohome roof tent measures 7.5 feet (2.33 meters) in length, 4.2 feet (1.3m) wide and 4.9 feet (1.5m) high. It can hold a payload of 1,984 pounds (900-kilograms) and has a static roof load capacity of 661 lb (300-kg).
Land Rover claims the tent will be available in addition to 170 accessories for the Defender. Land Rover also claims the tent can be used with its Expedition Roof Rack or Roof Rails, which is standard equipment in the Adventure Pack.
It’s available now for EUR3,081.96 (or $3,492.60 at current exchange rate), and is only available for Defender 110 four-door models. A Defender-specific rooftop tent with Land Rover branding will excite those who are looking to drive the off-roader like the automaker intended.
