It covers 250 miles (400 km) using the NEDC cycle.
Many would argue that Lexus could not have chosen a better time to debut its first electric vehicle, as everyone is focused on Tesla and the futuristic Cybertruck which just debuted in Los Angeles. It’s still a significant moment in the company’s history, and the world premiere will take place at Auto Guangzhou 2019 Why? China will be the main market for UX 300e, but electric crossover can also be sold in Japan.
The design is almost identical to the standard model except for the location of the fuel cap. However, we noticed that the cap’s round shape was changed to accommodate the charging port. The vehicle has subtle differences to the UX. These include the new aerodynamic wheels and a 20 millimeter (0.8 inch) lower ride height. A redesigned underbody cover was also included to improve efficiency. The only thing that has been changed inside is the appearance of the instrument cluster.
The front-mounted internal combustion engine is being replaced by an electric motor with 201 horsepower (150kilowatts) & 300 Newton-meters (221-pound-feet). The lithium-ion battery pack is under the body. It has a 54.3-kWh charge and can provide enough energy for approximately 400 km (almost 250 miles). It will take about 50 minutes to fully charge the battery with a 50-kW fast charger or seven hours using a standard household socket of 6.6-kW.
The vehicle weighs in at 1,900 kg (4,188 lbs) and has a tuned suspension with revised dampers to support the additional weight. Lexus installed an Active Sound Control system (ASC), which “transmits natural and ambient sounds” to ensure that the vehicle’s sound is heard.
The UX 300e is Lexus’ first EV. But more are on the way as Toyota’s luxury division works on a zero-emissions platform. Lexus will soon introduce its first PHEV car, the first to be built from scratch as an EV.
