This Aviator is ready for flight.

After displaying the prototype at the New York Auto Show earlier in the year, Lincoln opens the doors to the production model of 2020 Aviator. This will be the first world debut of the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The prototype model is very similar to the production model. David Woodhouse, Aviator design boss, said that the Lincoln design team took inspiration from aeronautical history while creating the new SUV.

Bell and Ross is the inspiration for these instruments and gauges. The watchmaking company is known for its dedication to aviation-inspired design. In place of wood trim pieces there are engine-turned aluminum accents that remind one of the instrument panels on vintage aircraft. The perforation pattern found on the leather seats is a result of the aircraft runway lights. 30-way massage chairs are also available. While the Black Label interior theme, Flight, uses tan leather that was inspired by classic luggage. It’s not just old-fashioned touches. The Aviator’s cockpit is a glass cockpit. It has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a head-up display. These modern touches are excellent.

Lincoln received a lot of attention when it introduced the Navigator. Its little brother has similar lines and is long and lean with few perpendicular interruptions that distract from the narrative. The black pillars vanish in a sea tinted cabin glasses, giving the window line its own horizontal design stroke with no vertical interruptions.

Woodhouse stated that lines that pull back and down indicate the Aviator is ready for flight .

The Aviator is a big SUV. The Aviator is a large SUV with big wheels and huge wheel wells. It also has big doors and big windows. However, there are a few areas where the scale seems off. The door entry ports are much smaller than the doors, and each door has a six- to eight inch overhang.

The interior of the co-pilot and pilot seats is huge and beautiful. They are packed with heaters, adjusters, massagers and coolers. The second-row seats, however, are small enough to be used on their own. They also take up space that could have been used for something larger. The third-row seats, which are almost child-sized, are indeed very small. We couldn’t imagine it from the Aviator’s exterior.

Even the headlights look small, even though the grille is large enough to be an ocean-sized feature. These LED lights are adaptive, meaning they can be narrowed at high speed to provide long-distance vision and then widen at low speeds to better see cyclists, dogs and joggers.

The powertrains of the Aviator are exactly as they should be. The gas-powered, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter gasoline V6 is connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission. This transmits 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet to an optional all wheel-drive system. Standard is rear-drive. The Aviator offers more power with an electrical socket. It has a plug-in hybrid powertrain that includes a twin-turbocharged engine from the Grand Touring model. This produces 450 horsepower and 600 lb-ft.

The Aviator is Lincoln’s first plug in hybrid. It will also be the brand’s first Phone As A Key. The technology turns your smartphone into the vehicle’s key. Owners can forget their keys by using the Lincoln Way app. This is in addition to the other functions that can be done in the Lincoln Way app, such as locking and unlocking doors, opening the tailgate and remote starting the engine.

Lincoln claims that the Aviator is a creature comfort machine and the antidote for a world gone wrong. It’s easy for people to dismiss this as marketing hype. But the Aviator has a lot to offer. From the plug-in hybrid engine, the Revel Ultima audio system with 28 speakers, and the beautiful interior, it makes sense. The Aviator feels and looks like a quiet, luxurious cocoon.

It is unknown how much the four-wheeled cocoon will run. Lincoln has not yet released pricing information, nor when the new CUV will be available in showrooms. The 2019 Aviator will be on display at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, November 28.
