This prototype has most of the camo gone, but the big wings and diffuser are still there.
Mercedes-AMG’s A45 hot hatchback continues to be a showpiece. We’ve actually seen similar camouflage in spy videos. However, the Nurburgring latest photos give us a better view of what should be quite the beast.
This model has some distinctive differences. This model does not have the aggressive rear diffuser and large roof spoiler that were found on earlier vehicles. We are instead presented with a more refined version of the A45, which has a small lip spoiler that crowns the rear hatch. Further down, camo wrap is only on the lower section of the rear fascia, and no diffuser is installed. The gaping hole between exhaust outlets and the prototype could indicate that the section is missing.
The milder version of the A45 is also possible. Mercedes-Benz confirmed that the hot hatch will be available in two versions. The standard A45 will produce 383 horsepower (286kW) from its turbocharged 2.0-liter motor, while the A45 S will boast 416 horsepower (310kW) and 416 hp (416 kW). The eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with all-wheel drive will be used in each variant. However, it is not known what additional upgrades the S trim might offer. Nevertheless, the A45’s enhanced A45 will have an aggressive aero package.
Other details are not known, but it is likely that there won’t many changes to the A35. There’s the Panamericana grille up front, and though the platform is front-wheel-drive-based, it’s all-wheel-drive system will have several trick modes that can send power to each corner. For those who prefer to see the world through the sideglass, a drift mode will be available.
The A45 will be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It won’t be coming to America, unfortunately.
