2020 Mercedes CLA-Class Mercedes Debuts with Svelte Shape, 221 HP on Tap [UPDATE]

The teasers have ended, and now the real thing is underway. 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class After an unveiling at The, is here 2020 Consumer Electronics Show Las Vegas, Nevada. The new sedan will be available in late 2019 and Mercedes will provide pricing information closer to the launch.

The little four-door will only be available in the U.S. as the CLA250, which comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter and a seven-speed dual clutch automatic. Buyers have the option of front- or all-wheel-drive. It produces 221 horsepower (165kilowatts) as well as 258 pound-feet (353 Newton-meters). This is a significant upgrade to the turbo 2.0-liter in , the A220 sedan which produced 188 hp (135 kW) and 221lb-ft (299Nm). Mercedes has not yet provided any performance information for 2020 CLA, beyond the electronically limited top speed at 130 miles an hour (209 km/h).

The CLA-Class has seen a slight increase in size over the previous generation. The overall length of the CLA-Class is now 1.9 inches (48 mm) longer at 184.6 inches (4688 mm), while the wheelbase has increased by 1.1 inches (30mm) to 107.4 inch (2,729mm). The company also extends the wheel tracks 2.5 inches (63mm) at front and 2.2 inches (52.5mm) at rear. A larger vehicle doesn’t mean more cabin space. Front legroom shrinks by 0.04 inches (1mm), and rear legroom increases by 1mm. Cargo capacity in the trunk decreases by 0.35 cubic foot (10 liters), to 16.24 cubic feet (460 Liters).

The CLA-Class interior comes with Mercedes-Benz User Experience software (MBUX). There are two seven-inch displays in the standard cabin – one for the instruments, and one for the infotainment system. For a more striking view, customers can upgrade to two 10.25 inch screens. The tech also offers gesture control, which allows occupants to use their hands to select items rather than the touchpad on the central console. Additional improvements include navigation and a Burmester Surround sound system.

The 2020 CLA is equipped with Active Brake Assist, which can slow down the sedan to avoid collisions. The optional Driver Assistance Package adds helpful driving aids to the vehicle. This package includes adaptive cruise control, active steer assist, lane keep aid, speed limit sign recognition and blind spot monitoring.
