It has a total power output of 320 HP and 516 lb-ft (516 Nm).
The GLC 350e, the latest plug-in hybrid Mercedes, isn’t the only one that the Daimler company will unveil ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show. This is a unique proposition in the premium midsize SUV segment in Europe. It uses a turbodiesel engine that looks like a 2.0-liter four cylinder unit.
The internal combustion engine generates 194 horsepower, and the electric motor is rated at 135 hp. The combined output of the GLE and the electric motor is 320 horsepower. It also produces a massive 516 pound-feet (706 Newton-meters), of torque. GLE 350de’s PHEV setup allows it to sprint to 62 mph (101.0 kph), if the ICE is present, or to 100 mph (161 kph), if it uses only the electric motor.
The electrified SUV can travel 99 km (61.5 miles) on its own electric energy based only on the WLTP cycle thanks to a 31.2-kWh battery. The downside is that the battery pack does reduce the luggage space. With the seats folded, it drops from 2,055 to 72.5 cubic feet to 1,915 (67.6 Liters) This compromise is worth noting, considering that the loss isn’t too significant.
It will take 20 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 80% once it is fully charged. A DC charging station can be used to charge the battery for between 10% and 100% in 30 minutes. It will take about 90 minutes to fully charge a wallbox while it will take approximately five hours to charge a standard power socket. The battery can be charged using a 7.4kW onboard charger or regenerative brake, which will allow it to charge while you’re on the move. Mercedes claims its diesel-electric GLE can tow up to 3,500 kg (7,716 lbs)
Mercedes’ PHEV Onslaught includes the GLE 350de, along with more than ten plug in hybrids. This number will increase by more than doubling by 2020. The two new electrified SUVs are on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show, where you can also see the zero emission VisionEQ S concept.
