2020 Mini Lineup Announced in the U.S. Confirms Delay of Manual Gearbox

earlier reports proved correct. Mini has officially confirmed that manual transmissions will not be available for 2020 models. This comes as the British manufacturer unveils its updated American lineup, which will include the all electric Mini Cooper SE as well as the Mini John Cooper Works GP. The first model will be available on the market in the early part of next year while the ICE-powered hot car will follow later in 2019.

Mini announced that the John Cooper Works Countryman as well as the Clubman will be getting a new generation engine of 301 horsepower (224-kilowatt), which provides significant acceleration improvements. The Clubman’s performance version can sprint from 0-60 miles per hour (0-100 km/h) in 4.9 seconds. The other models get minor updates, such as the Clubman’s two new color combinations. It also gets rear lights with integrated Union Jack designs. There are some changes to the upholstery and wheel options for 2020. The Clubman will get a range-topping 19-inch alloys. The Countryman can be ordered with either a 7-speed dual-clutch or 8-speed automatic, depending on which version you prefer.

A larger battery has been added to the plug-in hybrid Cooper S E Countryman ALL4. The battery now has a 9.6-kWh capacity, up from 7.6-kWh. This increases the all-electric range to around 16 miles. The potential tax credit will increase from $4,001 up to $4,835. Mini claims that the Active Driving Assistant has been made standard on all 2020 models and trims.
