Dual-clutch transmissions upshift faster than you blink an eye.
While the 2020 Corvette Stingray may be the most talked about, American enthusiasts of performance cars are still eagerly awaiting Ford’s latest street car. The Blue Oval has now revealed additional details about the pony car. The Shelby GT500 takes just 10.6 seconds to do the 0-100-0mph (0-161-0) kmph task.
Tremec collaborated with Tremec to develop a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that can accomplish such impressive feats. The computer-controlled transmission can shift in just 80 milliseconds. This is faster than the blinking of an eye. It must also handle the huge load of the supercharged V8 engine with 760 horsepower and 625 pounds-feet (847 Newton meters) of torque, which is channeled to rear axle. The DCT can automatically adjust to the driving mode it is in. Ford claims that the shifts are “ultra smooth” when the car’s in a normal model. Drag mode can only experience “forceful powershifts”. The Shelby GT500 can complete the quarter-mile in less than 11 seconds thanks to its dual-clutch transmission.
It takes only 10.6 seconds to reach 100 mph, and then return to 0 at the same time. This is due to its powerful Brembo brakes. Ford claims that the ultimate Mustang boasts the largest front brakes in America, with the two-piece front rotors measuring 16.5 inches (420 mm). The brakes have 20% more surface area than the Shelby GT350’s, and 30% more thermal mass at the front corners. The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 starts at $73,995, but there are many options that can make it more expensive. The $18,500 Carbon Fiber Track package includes goodies such as 20-inch carbon wheels and adjustable rear wings. There are also front splitter wickers. You can also choose from Technology and Handling packages. Vinyl or painted stripes are available for an additional cost.
