Meet your new boss. The new boss is almost the same as the previous boss.
The Porsche 911 was officially unveiled last night at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It was presented in a stunning presentation that showcased Stuttgart’s new supercar and paid tribute to its history with a parade of classic 911s. The 992-series is very similar to the original model at first glance. However, there are subtle differences and you will see how the new 911 is different from the previous model when you compare the 991 and the 992 generations. Let’s compare the two cars and see what the fuss is all about.
Front:
During the unveiling ceremony it was mentioned that the design of the 992’s had a little bit of 1970’s 911 influence. Although the changes are subtle, we still love the look of the sculpted hood back in its original place. The new Porsche 992’s hood is sharper and has more angles than curves. This styling theme was also applied to the car. This is evident in the 992’s fascia which has rectangular air vents instead of the oval-shaped design on the predecessor.
Profil
It would be easy to mistakenly believe that this comparison depicts different 911s from the same generation. From the wheel arches, to the rake and slope of the windshield, the overall car shape is almost identical. The rounded seams for the doors and the squared theme aren’t as prominent here. The 992’s new door handle is sharper.
Rear Profile
The exterior differences between the old 911 and the new 911 are most obvious at the rear, particularly in a profile view. The edgy theme can be seen again in the lower fascia. This is especially evident with the thin taillights that are connected by a single strip across the engine cover. The vents are now vertically aligned, which adds a pleasing symmetry to 911’s backside. Even though it may not be obvious, the rear fenders are a little more prominent.
Rear
Straight-on views from the rear highlight the differences better. It also shows how much wider and more pleasing the new 911’s backside compared to the 991.
Interior Profile
The 911’s changes inside aren’t subtle. The new digital layout of the 911 takes center stage. It is displayed in a wide dash with straight lines. The overall appearance is very tidy, with fewer buttons.
Interior Driver’s View
We can see the cockpit from the driver’s point of view. These are the obvious lines of the dash. However, 911 enthusiasts will be familiar with one thing: The rev counter, which is prominently located behind the wheel and centered, is very visible.
