We may not have noticed if the driver didn’t try to evade the camera.
This is a great catch by our spy photographers in the field. The new Ram pickup appears identical to any Big Horn edition at a glance, down to the badge on its tailgate. Although the wheels and tires may be different, most pickup owners will swap out the factory rubber for aftermarket tires. The truck is equipped with a license plate that shows the manufacturer, so it can still be identified as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The rear suspension is a little too beefy.
This alone isn’t neck snapping. However, the truck was originally captured under a tarp next to a Dodge Challenger Hellcat Widebody. A distinctive whine was heard from the truck’s engine as it zitted away when someone tried to lose the photographer. This would be the sound of a huge supercharger atop a Hellcat engine. The Ram Rebel TRX is likely to be wrapped in Big Horn sheet metal.
FCA confirmed that the Ford Raptor fighter from Ram was coming soon, but no details about its power or underpinnings are known. We saw the Rebel TRX concept a few years back and it had only 575 horsepower (429kilowatts). It’s possible that the Hellcat may not be able to handle the power of the production truck. giving the Ram its 707 horsepower monster engine makes no sense considering we already have a Hellcat-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. We have heard rumors that the Rebel will receive all of its demonic ponies.
This truck is being marketed as a Raptor fighter. It will be fascinating to see how Ram designs the suspension to handle this power in both on and off-road conditions. We know that test mules have been out and about so we can expect to see a production version of the truck unveiled in the second half of next year or even 2020. It will be well worth the wait.
